Society will always throw stones at those courageous enough to stand for what they believe in. Those with the strength to challenge and question some concepts; and deaf enough not to listen to chatters on the street.
I think the worst part of it is the facade called ‘freewill’: ‘the power to be whatever you want to be’.
Are we ever really allowed to be ourselves? Yes, we are all given the choice to be ‘who we want to be’ but think about it, is the package really that simple?
Think of it this way, you are either born rich or poor. If you are born rich, you are already way ahead of life than your counter self. If you are born poor, you are already underprivileged in so many aspects of life. The rich child is already thousands of steps ahead of you in life before you even take your first step.
You don’t get the choice to decide to be born rich. Ideally, as a rich/poor kid, your life is already constrained by some cacoon of your social status. You only get to make choices within that cacoon. Can we still call this free will?
But maybe the issue is not in free will or determinism, maybe it is just the unfairness of life. It might be all about life throwing lemons at you and you learning which lemons to pick up and which to ignore.
